Brief Description of the Theological Konvikt
Who we are: The Theological Konvikt is a student dormitory located in the heart of Berlin. The 72 students living here come from diverse backgrounds. While most of them study theology, there are students from many other fields of study as well. The most unique aspect of life in the Konvikt is the sense of community, which can be seen in the parties, the worship services, the collaborative study groups, and spontaneous activities, among other things. Every resident can contribute to the community using his/her own abilities, and new residents quickly make friends and feel at home. The Theological Konvikt is operated by the Protestant Church and supervised by a pastor. The church offers students many additional services under the same roof: Students are invited to attend a variety of events and worship services organized by the Protestant Student Congregation (ESG Berlin). The student co-op program (STUBE) and the counseling and support in social emergencies program (Notfonds) also offer counseling, support, and pastoral care, especially for students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. All of these services together make up the Berlin Protestant Student Center.
Do you plan to study in Berlin but are still looking for a cosy room to rent? International students are an important part of the Konvikt community. This is why we are particularly excited about your interest in our offer. You do not need to be Protestant to live here, but it is important to have an open mind for theological questions and ecumenical experiences. It is equally important to be prepared to live with other students and to be actively engaged. Rent: Furnished rooms cost between 150 and 200 Euros per month, depending on the size of the room (8-15 m²). Kitchens and bathrooms are shared. Moving in/Moving out/Term of lease: Rooms are always rented by the semester, which means that students generally move in at the beginning of a semester (April 1st or October 1st) and move out at the end of a semester (March 31st or September 30th). The maximum length of a lease is two semesters. Extensions are possible for students who are especially active in the community.
Room allocation: There are approximately ten rooms available each semester. Applications must be received by June 31st or December 31st for the following semester. Your application should include: a cover letter explaining your interest in the Konvikt, a resume, and a photograph. Please write your application in German or English and send it by mail or e-mail to: Theologisches Konvikt/Borsigstr. 5/D-10115 Berlin or theokonvberlin@gmx.de All candidates are invited to Berlin for an interview and a tour of the house. Decisions are usually made by the end of July and February.
