In der Umbruchsphase nach dem Fall der Berliner Mauer wird das Sprachenkonvikt im März 1990 legalisiert und zur vollwertigen Hochschule erklärt. Die Abschlüsse aus der DDR-Zeit werden als akademische Qualifikationen anerkannt, viele Dozenten erhalten reguläre Professuren.
Aber die wiedervereinigte Kirche muss die Zahl ihrer Ausbildungsstätten in Berlin verringern. 1991 wird die Fusion mit der Theologischen Fakultät der Humboldt-Universität vollzogen, die Kirchliche Hochschule Zehlendorf schließt sich an.
Das Konvikt bleibt als studentisches Wohnheim der Kirche bestehen. Es ist jedoch nicht zuletzt wegen der dringend erforderlichen Sanierung gefährdet. Studentische Initiativen, Ehemalige und ein Förderverein kämpfen für den Erhalt.
Sanierung und Unterhalt des Hauses werden schließlich 2018 durch den Vertrag zwischen der Landeskirche und der kirchlichen Hilfswerk-Siedlung GmbH (HWS) gesichert. Am 11. September 2021 feiert das Theologische Konvikt seine Neueinweihung als evangelisches Wohnheim für rund 100 Studierende aller Fachbereiche, Länder und Religionen
In the period of upheaval after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Language Konvikt was legalized in March 1990 and given full status as an academic institution. The degrees conferred during the GDR period were recognized as academic qualifications and many lecturers received regular professorships.
However, the reunited church had to reduce the number of its training institutions. The Language Konvikt was merged with the theology department of the Humboldt University in 1991 and the Church College in Zehlendorf followed suit.
The Konvikt continued to exist as a student dormitory of the church, but was threatened not least by the urgently needed renovation. Student initiatives, alumni, and a friends’ association fought for its preservation.
The renovation and maintenance of the building were finally secured in 2018 through a contract between the Berlin regional church and the church housing association Hilfswerk-Siedlung GmbH (HWS). On September 11, 2021, the Theological Konvikt celebrated its opening as a Protestant dormitory for about one hundred students from all academic departments, countries, and religions.
